Manage Forum

Once you have created your forums, you can perform the following operations to update and manage the forum details as and when required:

Set a Forum Logo

This section allows you to add a logo or an image to your forum. You can upload an image from your desktop or provide the URL of your favorite logo.

To upload a forum logo:

  1. Go to Settings > Forums.
  2. Choose the Forum for which you would like to set a logo from the left side menu.
    This opens the General settings page.
  3. Click on Browse and choose a image for your forum from your local disk. You can also provide the URLof the required image. See image below
    The forum logo will now be saved.


Update Forum Details

This section allows you to update or modify the general details of your forum.

To update forum details:

  1. Go to Settings > Forums.
  2. Select the Forum that you want to manage from the left side menu
    This opens the General settings page.
  3. Update the General Details namely Name & Description. See image below
  4. Click on Save Changes.


Modify Access Levels

This section allows you to modify the access and security levels that have been updated while creating the forum. You can also update the member and moderator details.
 
To update forum permissions:
  1. Go to Settings Forums
  2. Choose the Forum for which you want to manage update access levels section from the left side menu.
    This opens the General settings page.
  3. Scroll down to Permissions Levels section and update the following:
    • Access Levels
      • Portal Members: When enabled, the specific forum can be accessed by all your portal members.
      • Private: When enabled, the specific forum can be accessed only by selected Members or Groups. You can enter the usernames in the Add Members text-box or select the Group from the Add Groups drop-down.
      • Add Moderators: Enter the usernames Add Moderators text-box or select a Group from the Moderator Groups drop-down.
    • Security Levels
      • Lock: If locked, the specific forum can only be viewed. Users will not be able to post topics in the corresponding forum.
      • Hide: If hidden, the specific forum will not be available to your users to see.
  4. Click on Save Changes.
    The permission levels get updated.


Configure Forum Permissions

  This section allows you to configure the permission settings to decide who has access to the forum and what your users are allowed to do.

To update forum permissions:

  1. Go to Settings > Forums. 
  2. Choose the Forum for which you want to configure permissions from the left side menu. 
  3. Select the Permissions tab. 
  4. Update the required Forum Permissions (refer: Create Forum - Forum Permissions section) and click on Save Changes. See image below
    The forum permissions get updated.


Add Moderators

This section allows you to add moderators to the forum who will be eventually moderating the replies made to the posts of the corresponding forum.

To add forum moderators:
  1. Go to Settings > Forums. 
  2. Choose the Forum for which you add moderators from the left side menu. 
  3. Select the Moderators tab. 
  4. Enter the username or Email ID of the required user in the Add Moderators text-box. You can also add multiple moderators to a forum. 
  5. Click on Save.
    The moderator information gets updated for your forum.


Create Forum Widgets

Apart from portal widgets, you can add individual widgets to every forum in your portal. The forum widget section displays the list of default widgets available for the selected forum. In addition, you can also create custom widgets and add it to the forum. These widgets will displayed in the corresponding forum page.

To create HTML Widgets:

  1. Go to Settings > Forums.
  2. Click on Save Changes.
  3. Choose the Forum for which you want to create HTML widget from the left side menu.
  4. Select the Widgets tab and click on Add HTML Widget button from the right-side menu.
  5. Enter the Widget Name, Description and HTML Code in the corresponding text-boxes. See image below
    The HTML widget gets created and added to the forum automatically.

To create Link Widgets:

  1. Go to Settings > Forums. 
  2. Choose the Forum for which you want to create link widget from the left side menu. 
  3. Select the Widgets tab and click on Add Quick Links button from the right-side menu. 
  4. Enter the Link Name and URL in the corresponding text-boxes. See image below 
  5. Click on Save Changes.
    The quick link widget gets created and added to your portal automatically.


Manage Forum Widgets

Once you have created the custom widgets, you can rearrange their positions to specify how widgets will be ordered within the widget area.

To rearrange widgets:
  1. Go to Settings > Forums.
  2. Choose the required forum from the left side menu to manage its widgets.
  3. Click on Widgets and select the Manage Widgets tab.
  4. Change the order of the widgets by dragging/dropping the required widget listed in Selected Widgets column.
    The order of the widgets gets updated according to the position selected.
To edit and delete custom widgets:
  1. Go to Settings > Forums.
  2. Choose the Forum from the left side menu to edit/delete its widgets.
  3. Click on Widgets and select the HTML Widgets tab.
  4. Select the required widget that you would like to update and click on Edit.
  5. Select the required widget that you would like to remove and click on Delete.
  6. Follow the same procedure to edit/delete the Link Widgets.
    By default, portal widgets are displayed if there are no forum widgets available. 

Lock Forum

Locking a forum allows you to end all active discussions. When a specific forum is locked, it stops your forum members from adding topics, posting responses, comments in the corresponding forum. 

To lock a forum:
  1. Go to Settings > Forums. 
  2. Choose the Forum that you want to lock from the left side menu.
    This opens the General settings page. 
  3. Scroll down to Permissions levels section and go to Security Levels.
  4. Enable the Lock check-box. 
  5. Click on Save Changes. See image below
    The selected forum is now locked from posting. You can unlock the forum as and when required.

Disable Forum

Disabling a forum helps you to hide the forum from your portal. When a specific forum is disabled, all posts associated to the forum (such as topics, responses etc., ) will be completely hidden from your portal. It cannot be viewed by your forum members. 

To hide a forum:
  1. Go to Settings > Forums. 
  2. Choose the Forum that you want to lock from the left side menu.
    This opens the General settings page. 
  3. Scroll down to Permissions levels section and go to Security Levels. 
  4. Enable the Hide check-box. 
  5. Click on Save Changes. See image above
    The selected forum is now disabled from viewing. You can re-enable it as and when whenever required
